It was a natural fit for everyone. The Jeepers got to know more about our veterans, some of whom haven't had the easiest time dealing with things since seeing action in places like Afghanistan. The vets got to know that there is a ton of support outside their immediate group of comrades. Funds were raised by raffling off prizes and a 50-50 draw to offset the costs. That way the vets didn't have to worry about the expense of getting away for a really needed break for a couple of days. By the end of the weekend, new friendships had formed and plans for future get-togethers are in the works.

Next year we plan to host our second event during the warmer weather where more vets can join in the fun and camp at base camp with their service dogs.

What can happen when you bring together two groups of people who enjoy the outdoors, technical "stuff" and a bit of fun? A great weekend of camaraderie! One of our Jeepers is involved with the Veterans' Well-being Network and mentioned that some of the vets thought their "crazy" stories of wheeling sounded like a fun thing to do. Add in some other Jeepers who thought "well, why not offer up our passenger seats to take them on an adventure on the trails?" After all, military types are used to some rough rides and the Jeep came to us from the military...turns out it was an awesome idea!
